TOURNAMENT RULES

Dear Instructors and Martial Artists:

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, I invite you to join me as we go “Back to the Future”. In this age of tournament complexity I am offering a return to simpler, more manageable, times.  The Power of Self Goju is bringing back the “Back to Basics Martial Arts Challenge 4”.

The Back to Basics Challenge is sponsored by Stanley Isaac- Johnson Cornerstone Community Center in Conjunction with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development.  It will be held at Johnson Community Center in Manhattan. The Back to Basics Challenge represents an opportunity to compete at a major venue, minus the anxiety filled atmosphere, associated with many big time events.

THE CHALLENGE” features a basic no frills system of scoring; which is both Competitor and Spectator Friendly. Everyone will understand the rules and scoring; thus, the competition will be easier to follow for competitors and more exciting for everyone involved.

“THE CHALLENGE” features (First, second and third place medals in all divisions.)

 I HAVE INCLUDED A NUMBER OF SPECIALTY EVENTS:                                                     

WEAPONS, SELF DEFENSE, CONTINUOUS SPARRING AND BREAKING.  Since these divisions are getting larger each year, we have added extra divisions and broke these divisions into smaller age brackets.  All competitors in these divisions will compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals and all the first-place winners will go into the Grand Championship round. 

ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS PREFERRED.  HAVE APPLICATIONS IN BEFORE MARCH 2, 2019. 

THIS EVENT IS FREE FOR COMPETITORS AND SPECTATORS.  

For your convenience, I have included the rules so you can appreciate their simplicity.

We will also ask that all Instructors and black belts with judging experience please submit your name in advance to assist with the judging.

Please advise your students to bring a pad lock.  We do have plenty of locker space available.  Also, we will be selling food beverages. 

I am looking forward to spending an exciting day, of martial arts action, with each of you; in a family oriented atmosphere. Join me, as together we bring back the “Golden Age” of competition.
