WADLEIGH HIGH SCHOOL

215 WEST 114TH STREET

NEW YORK, NY 10026

Dear Instructors and Martial Artists:

On Saturday, March 10, 2018, I invite you to join me as we go “Back to the Future”. In this age of tournament complexity I am offering a return to simpler, more manageable, times.  The Power of Self Development Association is bringing back the “Back to Basics Martial Arts Challenge 3”.

The Back to Basics Challenge is sponsored by SCAN USAWA BEACON and will be held at Wadleigh High School in Manhattan. The Back to Basics Challenge represents an opportunity to compete at a major venue, minus the anxiety filled atmosphere associated with many big time events.

“THE CHALLENGE” features a basic no frills system of scoring; which is both Competitor and Spectator Friendly. Everyone will understand the rules and scoring; thus the competition will be easier to follow for competitors and more exciting for everyone involved.

“THE CHALLENGE” features 5 places in all children’s divisions under 12.  First, second and third place trophies and 4th and 5th place medals.

IN AN EFFORT TO FURTHER DEVELOP AN ATMOSPHERE OF FUN AND EXCITEMENT I HAVE INCLUDED A NUMBER OF SPECIALTY EVENTS:

SELF DEFENSE, CONTINUOUS SPARRING AND BREAKING.

ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS ONLY $10 FOR EACH EVENT.  YOU MUST HAVE APPLICATIONS IN BEFORE FEBRUARY 26, 2018.  REGISTRATION AT THE DOOR IS $15. FOR EACH EVENT.  SPECTATORS ADMISSION IS $10 IN ADVANCE AND $15. AT THE DOOR.   CHILDREN UNDER 5 ARE FREE.

For your convenience, I have included the rules so you can appreciate their simplicity.  Proceeds from this event will be used for the Power of Self Goju Martial arts Program.

We will also ask that all Instructors and black belts with judging experience please submit your name in advance to assist with the judging.  We will not have a black belt list at the door.

Please advise your students to bring a pad lock.  We do have plenty of locker space available.  Also, we will be selling food beverages and raffles.

I am looking forward to spending an exciting day, of martial arts action, with each of you in a family oriented atmosphere. Join me, as together we bring back the “Golden Age” of competition.

Please visit our website for applications and pre-registration information.

Best wishes.

Fraternally,

Kyoshi Dave Thomas
